The project is built around a fictional scenario in which a woman opens up to a mushroom about shameful thoughts, desires and actions. The only witness is a silent listener - a Coprinopsis picacea mushroom. 


The idea for this project started with our interest in mushroom dynamics, namely the way they open and close their splats to secure the spores, and the speed with which information passes due to mycelium, as well as their interaction with trees. 

At the same time, we had conversations in our friendship about shameful experiences, memories that left us with a guilty conscience. This raised the question of why humans want to be able to tell someone everything, including the hurtful sides of themselves, and what happens after the confession.

Like a dirty spot on your favorite garment, our most private and unacceptable self is terrified of being found out or noticed, yet its presence is intrusive, while craving to get clean. Do we speak them aloud in search of catharsis?

Tale of a guilty conscience

Once upon a time, there was a woman with a guilty conscience. 

She had no idea where it came from, but she remembered that the only way to cure it was by visiting old Coprinopsis picacea.

So she decided to go find it, and tell it about the things that were pressing her soul - to rid herself of the guilty conscience.

Little did she know that old Coprinopsis picacea was not only a good listener, but also a passionate sporer. It didn’t take long and the fungus started relating so hard, it accidently spread bits and pieces of the womans secrets all over…
